At UU Detroit, we believe that one of the best ways to grow in relationship with the church is to volunteer. By getting involved, new and old members create lifelong friendships, show their commitment to the church, and develop skills to lead us in the 21st century.

We provide many opportunities to volunteer with the church. These range from simple but vital tasks on Sunday mornings all the way up to elected leadership.

  • Become a greeter. Show all who enter our church for Sunday worship that they are truly welcome.
  • Dedicate flowers. Bring life into our sanctuary and honor an important person or event.
  • Share a ride. Fill our pews with new and familiar faces by providing folks with transportation who need it.
  • Provide child care. Care for the children of the adults who attend our Sunday worship service. Child care volunteers must be at least 18 years old.
  • Join the choir. Lift the service with your voice or other musical talents.
  • Facilitate the visitor table. During our social hour, ask visitors about their story, listen, and maybe share your own.
  • Moderate the sermon discussion. Dig deeper into the topics covered in Sunday’s sermon after the service.
  • Lead a worship service. Create a member-centered environment as we come together to worship.

In addition to our Sunday volunteers, we rely on the energy of our lay leaders for most church functions. These mostly take place through our committees, which we encourage you to join.
